When Inspiration Strikes

When something wonderful happens, we want to remember that moment forever. And so we whip out our mobile phone to capture the moment when our whole family is complete, or prove that we really did throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, or document that mouth-watering meal. But there are moments when you have no gadgets to record such moments. So when the rare winter sunlight beams through the window and forms a perfect halo around the fiery-red curls of the lady next to you in yoga class, the only thing you can do is take a snapshot with your mind and heart. Which is exactly what I did when this picture-perfect moment revealed itself to me two weeks ago in a Jivamukti class.
Later that day when I got home, I drew what I remembered, and came up with this. To you it may just be squiggles, lines, and splashes of color, but to me it’s an unforgettable winter solstice when our lovely French yoga teacher played Christmas carols and we danced the sun salutations. To me this drawing is the realization that you can be anywhere in the world and be with different people and do new things, and still feel the familiarity of home. Namaste.
